5 Ways Goal-Setting & Action Plans Lift the Spirit

Updated: Dec 29, 2020

You've heard the old adage, "a goal without a plan is just a wish", well these words definitely set the tone for creating an ambitious mind-set. In order to improve our lives we must have and follow a roadmap that's designed to lead us to our desired outcomes. These outcomes provide a since of accomplishment which nourishes the just feels really good to get things done! Here are 5 ways Goal-Setting (and creating action plans to attain those goals) can lift your spirit. It Keeps Us From Feeling Stagnant Most people have plans or things that they would like to do or accomplish in life. Your goal maybe to strengthen a weak area, or to accomplish career advancement, or maybe to create more free time to spend with family or friends. Whatever that goal is, the intention is to improve your quality of life. Without setting goals and putting them into motion our lives sit stagnant. Motionless desires will never serve a purpose. When we put one foot in front of the other and move progressively towards our goals we create waves that ripple towards success. It Wards Off Boredom Boredom can really be a joy killer. Having something to look forward to such as working towards a goal, can really boost our mood and get our creative juices flowing. This is not to suggest that you should turn yourself into a workaholic, but to simply imply that having a project outside of your daily routine keeps your mind fresh and active. Having to come up with new ideas to in order to make your dreams a reality challenges us, pushes us to strategize, and keeps us on our innovative toes. It Saves Time Time is something we all wish that we could wave a magic wand and create more of. It always seems as if a portion is stolen from us everyday. This is especially true when we don't make the time to plan ahead correctly. When creating plans to reach our goals (big or small goals) we have to make those plans as clear as possible so that we aren't running around at the end of the day (week, month, year) trying to fill in the blanks. The more precise you are when planning, the more time you'll have to tend to other important (or not so important) matters in your life. It Does All The Heavy Lifting Ok, so "technically" you're still doing all of the work by creating your plan, but the objective here is to plan now and work less later. When you sit down with pen and paper (or at your computer) to design your blueprint for success, that "blueprint" will serve as the nuts and bolts of your mission. Once they're all tightly fitted, you can then refer to your plan as written instructions. Simply follow those instructions you created for yourself and see them through to completion. Keep in mind that you may have to tweak your plans throughout the process but at least you'll have a foundation to build from.

It Provides A Sense Of Pride Stepping out of our comfort zone to enhance our lives or pursue a new passion takes courage. It also shows discipline and the ability to finish what we start. When we work hard to challenge ourselves it opens doors to personal growth, new positive connections, and a crazy exciting side of us we rarely get to see. We can take pride in knowing that our lives are colorful and rich with imagination and that we can do anything we put our minds to especially with the power of God.
